Matomo (formerly Piwik)

This is the heavyweight alternative for teams that actually NEED the depth of Google Analytics but want data ownership.

Why Matomo matters:

  • Feature parity with GA for most reporting needs. Funnels, cohorts, custom dimensions, e-commerce tracking — it's all there.
  • Self-hosting option means your data never leaves your servers
